Be sure and "Loctite" connecting rod bolts, OMC abandon this practice in 1994, claiming inaccurate torque readings, but we have seen time and time again were rod bolts have simply "Fallen" out causing severe damage and needless failure. Be sure and use Loctite "Gel-Seal" between block and crankcase cover. DO NOT "SCRAPE" surface, use a [NEW] razor blade to CAREFULLY clean old GelSeal off. Wipe surface clean with Accetone before applying GelSeal. This "Seal" is critical, take your time. Chech deck on block and heads for straightness. A motor that has been run hot is sure to have a deck, or head problem. Wire wheel headbolts and use a thread chaser to clean headbolt threads. Oil, or Grease, bolts when installing.
