Good question , I hope this short, over simplified answer will help to explain.  This website is 6 years old. I am not a webpage builder, nor am I a software expert. I build marine engines and boats, always have. About 4 years ago this site "Took Off", as the motors I had in stock sold, I began telling customers about motors that I had, but were not ready to go. "No problem", they would say, "I will send you the payment, and when it is ready you can ship it." Yeah, great plan, until you find that you have sold 20 unfinished motors, and only average 2-3 a week.

My ex-wife, who has a Masters Degree in Education, had a simple solution:
"Hire People to Build Motors!"
Yeah, that's a worse plan than selling them before you build them. At least when I build them, when they do leave, they are gone. For some reason, when someone else builds them, they come back with a problem. I have been in this business for over 30 years and I have found that problems always seem to point to employees. If I do it myself, it seems to be fine. Don't get me wrong, I need the employee's that I have, but:

I Will Build EVERY Motor We Sell, Period.

Anybody  who is good enough to build outboard motors, owns their own shop. An unemployed boat mechanic isn't worth a shit. It's not that they "Can't" do it, it's that they don't "Care" to do it right each and every time. The "Quality Control" element is lost when you do not OWN the shop, and have a long term "Stake" in the products and services.

So I will continue to build EVERY motor that goes out of here, I will do my best not to sell them any faster than they are ready, although there are a lot of customers who don't care as much about "Time Frame" as they do about getting a Great Motor at a Great Price. We have created "Motors to Find" lists and have dozens of people looking, as a result, many of our motor never get listed on the webpage because they are sold, to someone on the list, as soon as they are ready.

If you are looking for a motor in particular, please don't wait to see it listed. Drop us an e-mail and let us put you on the list. Generally I will e-mail back, right away, and let you know what I have available including Price and Delivery Time.

I plan to "ReDo" the webpage soon, not really listing more motors, but the Personal Pages, Newsletter, Specials and Used Parts. We will also have a new page: "Our Machine Shop" featuring pictures of some really "trick" motors like 800 HP BB Chevys, in the Dyno, some 350 HP Mercury V-6's outboards, Blower Motors at 1000 HP, some quarter mile "Stuff" down in the 500-600 HP range, and some NASCAR  motors, as well as the machines required to build such motors. These motors are all run on the Dyno, so these HP claims are NOT what I call "Bar Room" horsepower, they are real. Ever notice how people will tell you about the 500 HP motor they have in a truck, but it can't keep up with my 350 HP motor in my truck, that's "Bar Room" Horsepower. We deal with Reality.

What are they going to do when I finish my new motor:
383 ci. Ford [351w] with Eagle Stroker Crank, J&E Pistons, Edlebrock Stage III Aluminum Heads with Triple Springs and Titanium Valves.
All Roller Valve Train by Crane, Dynoed at 525 HP.

Don't get me wrong, I am a GM "Racer" at heart, but I believe that Ford builds the best truck and I just want mine to keep up with traffic.
If I get the "Need for Speed" I take the cover off of my 1974 Chevy LUV.
(GM "Crate Motor" ZZ4 with Plenty of Extra's, about 375 HP)

Thanks for Everything, Ron

Why not have 10 Motor Builders?

"An attempt by the owner to explain how we get behind"
After all, this is a seasonal business and summertime takes it's toll.
