~ Raw Water Pump Conversion ~
Mercruiser, OMC and OMC Cobra Drive all incorporate Raw Water Pumps located in the center of the Stern Drive.
For the most part these pumps work fine, especially when maintained properly. Raw Water pump impellers should be changed once a year. Lets face it, not everybody changes the impeller every year. Some people don't change it until it "Dies". Changing the stock pump in these drives MUST be done on the trailer. We offer a "Conversion" kit for these drives incorporating a Crankshaft driven water pump. No belts to break and changing the impeller takes 5 minutes and nothing more than a screwdriver. It can be changed in 10 foot seas if needed. Seaweed and Plastic bags are among the biggest "Killers" of Raw Water Pumps.
Kits Include:
An American Made Johnson or Jabsco Crankshaft mounted pump, a support bracket, mounting hardware, fittings for "Freshwater Rinse" using a Perko transom mount Hose fitting.. Bronze Thru-Hull water Pick-up.
(Ball Valve Not Included, Available as an Option) Rinsing engine is as simple as hooking up a garden hose to a fitting mounted on the transom, inside the fishing cockpit, or anywhere you wish. Engine rinsing can be done with the vessel in the water without the "Hassles" associated with closing "Thru-Hull" valves. Kits come with easy to follow instructions and as always we are here for any and all
support
questions.
~ Important Note ~
Never remove Raw Water Pump from sterndrive as it will result in Gear and/or Bearing Failure.
